DAY ONE OF MINDFULNESS (Cultivating Kindness)

In some emails, personal text or maybe my social media, I’ve expressed my on and off battle with being consistent with my mental health. It’s a key component that I aim to make more present in our Community. Day One I choose to practice cultivating kindness, and what better way to cultivate kindness, than to myself. Although it’s rare, Despite the stereotype that eating disorders only occur in women, about one in three people struggling with an eating disorder is male. Before Fitness, I had to cultivate a kinder relationship to myself and food, Fast Food to be exact. Life is going to life, time will be lost and fast food might be a choice, it’s important to remember that not all fast food chains are out to destroy your. If you're looking for a healthier fast food option, there are establishments that offer nutritious choices to help you make better decisions for your health. Below are just a few brought to us by the coaches at Living.fit

  1. Grilled chicken or fish sandwich: Instead of opting for a fried option, look for grilled or baked alternatives. Choose whole wheat buns for added fiber and nutrients. To further boost the nutritional value, load up on vegetables as toppings. They provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

  2. Salad with lean protein: Many fast food chains offer salads with options like grilled chicken, shrimp, or tofu as sources of lean protein. However, it's important to be cautious with the dressing selection. Regular dressings can often contain added sugars and unhealthy fats that can turn a seemingly healthy salad into a calorie-dense meal. Opt for lighter dressings or choose to have the dressing on the side to control the portion and minimize excess calories.

  3. Veggie or turkey burger: Instead of going for a traditional beef burger, consider trying a veggie patty or a lean turkey burger. These alternatives can provide fewer saturated fats and more nutrients compared to a beef patty. Load up your burger with fresh vegetables, such as lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, to add extra nutrition and flavor.

  4. Wraps or burrito bowls: Look for options that allow you to customize your order with lean proteins, plenty of vegetables, and whole grain wraps or brown rice. This customization allows you to control the ingredients and portion sizes, ensuring a healthier meal. Incorporating lean proteins like grilled chicken, tofu, or beans, along with an array of colorful vegetables, can provide a balance of nutrients.

  5. Fresh fruit or yogurt cups: Some fast food chains offer fresh fruit cups or yogurt parfaits as a healthier alternative to sugary desserts. These options can satisfy your sweet tooth while providing essential vitamins and minerals. Be cautious with any added sugars or toppings and choose plain yogurt or yogurt with minimal added sugars for a healthier choice.

Kindness comes in many forms, the kindness I give myself acknowledging that I’ve shown up in nutritional efforts, overcame years of self hate in abusive relationship to food, I can now appreciate with kindness to my well-being as an adult and the inner child who only wanted the toy in the first place.
